Licensing
The Arkansas General Assembly passed the Arkansas Social Work Licensing
Act in 1981. This law provides for three levels of licensure.
Licensed Social Worker (LSW) — this person shall hold a baccalaureate
degree from a social work program accredited by the Council on Social
Work Education; pass an examination approved by the AR Social Work
Licensing Board for this level of practice; and pass the criteria
in the criminal background check.
Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) - this person shall hold a
master’s degree from a social work program accredited by the Council
on Social Work Education; pass an examination approved by the AR
Social Work Licensing Board for this level of practice; and pass
the criteria in the criminal background check.
Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW) - this person shall hold
a master’s degree from a social work program accredited by the Council
on Social Work Education; have two years of supervised social work
experience in a clinical or nonclinical concentration by a licensed
certified social worker licensed under this law beyond the master’s
degree; pass an examination approved by the AR Social Work Licensing
Board for this level of practice; and meet the criteria in the criminal
background check.
